Local Shortline Railroads Win Prestigious Industry Awards

The Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad has won the American Shortline & Regional Railroad Associations (ASLRRA) 2003 marketing award for the submission-Aggregates, 10 years of growth. Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad has grown railroad shipped aggregate business from shipments of 7,600 tons in 1994 to an estimated 1.1 Million tons for 2003. Marketing manager Todd Hunter of Williamsport, PA received the award at a ceremony during the ASLRRA annual meeting recently in Philadelphia.
The North Shore Railroad has been awarded the 2003 copper safety award for railroads in the 10,001-50,000 manhour category. The safety award was presented to North Shore Railroads President Gary Sheilds of Winfield, PA at the ASLRRA annual meeting recently in Philadelphia.
Both the Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad and the North Shore Railroads are operated by Richard Robey’s Northumberland Based North Shore Railroad Company-operators of 8 shortline railroads in North Central and North Eastern Pennsylvania. Five of these lines are owned by the Lewisburg, PA based SEDA-Cog joint Rail Authority.
